Personal Trainer Certificate

The Certified Fitness Trainer program is designed to equip graduates with the practical day-to-day skills necessary, as well as the theoretical knowledge needed to excel as a personal trainer serving the general public. Along with the necessary exercise science foundation, the distance education program covers client assessment, program design, basic nutrition, and sports medicine along with business and marketing skills.

The Personal Trainer Course will be divided in two parts:

In Part One the student will be studying (in-class theory and in gym) Sections One and Two of the Table of Contents. (see above)
Upon passing the exam for part one (100 multiple choices and T/F and practical observation) the student will proceed to Part Two.

In Part Two the student will be studying (in-class and in gym) from Section Three to Six of the Table of Contents. (see above)
Upon completing part two the student will take the Final Exam. (160 multiple choices, T/F and case study (in-class) and the Practical Exam (in gym).

The final certification can only be received upon passing 75% or better in the FINAL EXAM.

The Personal Training Certificate can only be received after passing the Theoretical and Practical Exam

Course Author

Dr. Frederick C. Hatfield, MSS, PhD

Frederick C. Hatfield, Ph.D., is Co-founder of the ISSA. Dr. Hatfield won the World Championships three times in the sport of powerlifting, and in 1986, performed a competitive squat with 1014 pounds at a body weight of 255 pounds (more weight than anyone in history had ever lifted in competition).

Dr. Hatfield's former positions include an assistant professorship at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) and Senior Vice President and Director of Research and Development for Weider Health and Fitness, Incorporated. Dr. Hatfield was honored by Southern Connecticut State University when they presented him with the 1991 Alumni Citation Award. In June of 2000, Dr. Hatfield was inducted into the Powerlifting Hall of Fame, located in York, PA. Then, in 2012 he was inducted into the Connecticut Powerlifting Hall of Fame. In 2015 he was inducted into the Fitness Hall of Fame. Dr. Hatfield competed in the Master's Division in the 1998 World Championships in Olympic Weightlifting.

Dr. Hatfield has written over 100 books (including several best-sellers) and hundreds of articles in the general areas of sports training, fitness, bodybuilding, and performance nutrition. He has been coach and training consultant to several world-ranked and professional athletes, sports governing bodies, and professional teams worldwide. He is known around the world as "Dr. Squat".
